FUNDACIÓ ÚNIQUES & 200CENT

Promoting contemporary women artists at SWAB Barcelona 2026

FVTVRIST Magazine // September 26, 2026

Fundació Úniques collects and supports women artists across Catalonia, Valencia and the Balearic Islands; 200CENT, founded by Anna Floto, Kirra Kusy and Eléa Orengo de Lamazière, approaches the same ecosystem from the perspective of an artist-run space. At Swab Barcelona 2026, the two structures meet within a shared stand. The collaboration brings together different models of cultural support around a common commitment to emerging practices.

For FVTVRIST, Natalia Foguet and Anna Floto join artists Agustina Fioretti and Irene Trujillo to discuss what happens when women enter the structures that assign visibility and value in contemporary art.

Last year at Swab, the Fundació Úniques Prize went to Robin Vuitch of 200CENT for Thin Skin. Was that prize the moment this collaboration clicked?

Natalia Foguet: Yes. It came out of a proposal from Swab to share a stand. We were already interested in working with 200CENT. Anna is a young director who promotes emerging artists, and she is an artist herself.

Anna Floto: The relationship began last year at Swab. Sharing a stand is interesting because it becomes a metaphor for how we share space and work together. It felt natural.

A foundation with a collection and business alliances, and an artist-run space built on community and experimentation. What did each side have to unlearn to work together?

Anna Floto: Very little. What connects us is a commitment to emerging artists. Organisations of different kinds can work together when the intention is the same.

Natalia Foguet: For the foundation, working with a gallery matters because galleries are fundamental to the ecosystem. They support artists and commercialise the work. The foundation holds a non-profit role. We see the two roles as complementary.

Marga Estelrich, Agustina Fioretti and Irene Trujillo arrive at Swab together. What thread connects their work, and how did you build the presentation around their conversation?

Irene Trujillo: I am interested in how works change when they move into another context. A piece communicates differently at a fair than in an exhibition. Sharing the space creates new dialogues between the artists, even though we worked together recently in Generació Úniques 2026. L'arxiu de la memòria volàtil with Fundació Úniques. This is also my first art fair, and I want to see how the process works.

Agustina Fioretti: Adapting the work for the fair interested me. Some of these pieces handle materials differently from my earlier work while keeping the same concerns. I wanted to see how they function in this context.

Visibility is still an issue, and visibility is also economic. How does collecting change the story for women artists in Catalonia, Valencia and the Balearic Islands?

Natalia Foguet: Collecting is essential. Public and private collections need to reflect reality more fairly. Women artists have been underrepresented historically, although many women work and study in the arts. Price matters too. Women artists are valued below men, particularly once work is treated as an investment. Price then gets confused with recognition. In the end price is determined by opportunity, inside a market that is already distorted.

Swab takes eclipse as its metaphor this year. What still remains in shadow for women artists today, and what do you see emerging into the light?

Natalia Foguet: The list would be long. Representation, identity and significance are still limited. Women are well represented in art schools. When they enter the market, that space narrows.

Anna Floto: The system is still built around men. Creating spaces where women come together, work and build community opens another route.

Natalia Foguet: Education matters. Women artists remain underrepresented in the way art history is taught. A great deal is still waiting to come into the light.

What happens when the fair ends? Where do you imagine this alliance going next?

Anna Floto: We want to keep creating space for emerging artists and building community.

Natalia Foguet: The collaboration shows the value of different parts of the ecosystem working together. The foundation supports artists through visibility and collecting. Galleries and artist-run spaces offer other forms of support.

Natalia Foguet and Anna Floto: New things are coming.

About FUNDACIÓ ÚNIQUES

Fundació Úniques is a private foundation dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of contemporary art produced by women. Founded by artist Adela Beltran and Manel Vallet, the foundation supports artists living and working in Catalonia, Valencia, and the Balearic Islands. Established in March 2024, Fundació Úniques is building its own collection of works by women artists, many of which are acquired from the exhibitions it organises and from the art fairs it attends. The foundation also aims to position itself as a meeting point between collectors and artists, while promoting the presence of their work at international art fairs through collaborations and partnerships with galleries and museums. Its stated mission is to increase the visibility and presence of women artists, while contributing to a more balanced representation of women artists within the cultural sector. You can now visit its latest exhibition in its new space in Barcelona, located on Carrer de la Diputació, 339. "les coses com són" is curated by international curator Mariella Franzoni.

About SWAB Art Fair

Founded in 2006 by architect and collector Joaquín Díez-Cascón, SWAB Barcelona began with a clear proposition: to bring emerging international practices into dialogue with Barcelona's cultural scene and to make the contemporary art fair a more open, accessible format. Since 2025, under the direction of Carolina Díez-Cascón, that proposition has expanded towards independent spaces, collective practices and alternative models of exchange, while retaining the fair's focus on emerging artistic production and new collecting.

For its 19th edition, SWAB turns to a question increasingly difficult for contemporary art fairs to avoid: what constitutes value beyond the market? The 2026 programme considers artistic value through social, symbolic and collective perspectives, looking at the tension between the economic structures of the art system and the experimental, autonomous and collaborative practices developing within it. More than 60 galleries, independent spaces and curatorial projects from 24 countries participate across the fair's programmes, alongside performances, workshops, radio, encounters and other public formats.

Taking place at the Palau Victòria Eugènia at Fira Barcelona Montjuïc, the 2026 edition also expands beyond the conventional booth through initiatives including the new OFF-Site programme, which activates peripheral, reused and unconventional spaces and considers how contemporary practice can form different relationships with territory and its communities.

FVTVRIST joins SWAB Barcelona 2026 as an official media partner. Across the fair, our editorial programme will focus on selected artists, galleries and independent projects through interviews, studio-led conversations and critical features, looking beyond individual works to the practices, infrastructures and ideas shaping a new generation of contemporary art.
